MWRA's regional system of pipes and facilities serves 61 metropolitan Boston cities and towns. MWRA provides wholesale water and sewer services to member communities.

The cities and towns that connect to the MWRA system also operate and maintain their own water and sewer networks. Cities and towns charge homes and businesses a retail rate for their water and sewer services.
