Section 70 MWRA Maintenance Work

About this Project:

Starting on Friday, February 23, 2024, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) will be commencing a critical maintenance and repairs project of a water main pipeline blow-off valve assembly located near the Melrose Middle School & High School and within Ell Pond Park and near the intersection of Tremont Street and Lynn Fells Parkway in the City of Melrose. Crews will be on site to begin excavating an access pit within the Authority’s easement of the park (the location is in the grassy field northwest corner area). Additionally, on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, the MWRA will be isolating the pipeline, which may result in discolored water. Should this occur, please let faucets run for a short period of time (usually only five to ten minutes) until clarity returns before drinking water or using for dishes, laundry, or other household needs.

The work zone will be active from 7:00AM to 3:00PM, Monday through Friday. Work is expected to take approximately two to three weeks to complete (the project will likely be completed by the end of mid-March 2024, weather and other conditions permitting). During off-work hours, the site will be covered and secured by a steel plate. Furthermore, the project is not expected to impact students, their parents, or other pedestrians.

For any questions, please contact Troy Wall, MWRA Community Relations Liaison, at Troy.Wall@MWRA.com or (617) 305-5762.
