The annual water quality report is a report on the quality of drinking water supplied by the Department of Public Works (DPW) in partnership with the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA). MWRA’s source water reservoirs, and the quality of water as determined through federal and state testing guidelines. Water quality test data, as well as definition of the terms used in the drinking water industry, are presented in clear and readily understandable language. The water quality testing information is also presented as it relates to health effects of contaminants tested.

The DPW's job is to operate, maintain and improve the local drinking water system. The DPW continues to upgrade the water system in an effort to improve the water quality and fire protection for residents of the Town of Winthrop.

Lead Results for Winthrop
Each year, MWRA and local water departments test tap water in homes that are likely to have high lead levels - usually homes with lead service lines or lead solder. For more information on lead and tap water and practical steps you can take to reduce exposure to lead in tap water, please see page 5 and 6 of the report.
