2003 Report on your Drinking Water - a message from your local water department

CITY OF EVERETT
Department of Public Works

Public Water Supply # 3093000

Dear Valued Customer,

We in the City of Everett Water Division, in an effort to keep ongoing communication with our customers about the quality of our drinking water, are providing you with the following water information.

The MWRA has been working with us to ensure that the highest quality of water flows into your home. The City of Everett purchases all of its water directly from the MWRA. The water is delivered through MWRA master meters into our distribution system. The distribution system consists of a network of 63 miles of pipes, from 2” to 24” in diameter, valves, hydrants, and service lines.

Everett has been working to upgrade the water mains throughout the city. Last year we replaced the water mains, valves, and hydrants on Jefferson Ave. and part of Elm St. This year we will be replacing the water mains on Broadway from Glendale Square to Summit Ave., Partridge Terrace and Blanchard Ave.

The Water Division is continuing to upgrade its distribution system. Over 15 new fire hydrants were replaced along with numerous gate valves last year. This winter being one the worst for frozen pipes and water main breaks we were able to repair over 40 water leaks and thaw 25 homes.

We will be sampling for lead and copper this year in September. The EPA rule requires that 9 out of 10, or 90% of these sampled homes must have levels below the Action Level of 15 parts per billion (ppb). Lead levels in your home may be higher or lower based on your household plumbing. All lead services are replaced from the street to the sidewalk shut-off when streets are reconstructed.

The City of Everett Water Division hopes you find this report informative and beneficial. If you have any questions regarding this report or any other water related questions you may call Glenn Garbati, Water Superintendent at 617-394-2387.

Sincerely,
Glenn A. Garbati
Water Superintendent
