Reasons to Use Tap Water

People can get drinking water from the faucet in the kitchen or in a bottle from the store. People should use more tap water for a few reasons. First of all, bottled water hurts the environment. Also, many people think that bottled water is healthier for you but most studies show that tap water is just as good for you as bottled water. Finally, tap water is much less expensive than bottled water. These are some of the reasons why people should choose tap water over bottled water.

One reason people should choose tap water is because using bottled water hurts the environment. The bottles are made out of plastic. The plastic hurts the environment because when it is made it lets CO2 out into the air. This contributes to global warming. It also hurts the environment when the plastic is recycled. That hurts the environment because the plastic is melted over fires which produce smoke and pollutes the world. When plastic bottles are made and recycled, chemicals are released into the air. Another reason plastic bottles hurt the environment is because people litter and throw their bottles on the ground. Many bottles also get thrown in the trash. The trash might end up in the ocean. If an animal tries to eat the plastic, they might get very sick or even die. Those are some of the reasons why bottled water is bad for the environment.

Another argument for using tap water is that it is just as healthy for you as bottled water. Tap water is required to be tested more often than bottled water. Also, tap water is treated to kill bacteria and bottled water is not. Bottled water can absorb chemicals used to make the bottles. These chemicals are not good for people. Many people think that bottled water is healthier that's why they are willing to pay more for it but really bottled water is no healthier for you than tap water.

Tap water is less expensive than bottled water. In Wakefield, our drinking water costs about 5 cents per gallon. Bottled water costs over $1 per gallon. Bottled water is more expensive because it has to be transported all over the world. It also costs money to make the bottles. Bottled water is sold by private companies who want to make a profit. This also adds to the cost. If people drink bottled water instead of tap water, they might not want to pay for big projects that will improve the public water system for everyone.
In conclusion, tap water is a better choice than bottled water. Bottled water is bad for the environment. It pollutes the air and can endanger animals. Bottled water is not a healthier choice than tap water. Tap water is tested to make sure it is very safe to drink. It is cheaper to drink tap water. Bottled water can cost more than 20 times what tap water costs. Bottled water hurts the environment, isn't healthier and costs more. That is why tap water is the superior alternative for quenching your thirst.
