The Operation WaterSense Program
Massachusetts Water Resources Authority

Operation WaterSense, a joint program of MWRA and its communities, offers conservation services directly to MWRA communities. The program has helped reduce demand from 330 million gallons of water per day to 220 million gallons of water per day, and has helped residents control their water, sewer and energy costs.

TOOLS USED IN THE PROGRAM

  • Showerheads save between 2 and 4 gallons per minute
  • Faucet aerators save 1.5 gallons per minute
  • Toilet tank dams save up to 1 gallon per flush
  • A leak detection survey to check for faucet, shower and toilet leaks

FREE RETROFIT KITS

If you live within in an MWRA customer community, you may be eligible to receive free water-efficiency kits. Kits can include showerheads, aerators, toilet tank dams and leak-detecting dye tabs. The contents of the kits may vary. Kits are available while supplies last.

Water service providers (e.g., DPWs) within the MWRA service area may request up to 50 kits for distribution to local residents and businesses.
