Work on MWRA's project to rehabilitate the Section 28 pipeline in Arlington was complete in May, 2011.

The Section 28 project took place in 3 phases, including the cleaning and cement-mortar-lining of approximately 6,250 feet of 20-inch- diameter, cast-iron pipe. Section 28, which was constructed in 1899, provides suction to the Brattle Court Pump Station in Arlington. The project included landscaping restoration.

The Brattle Court Pump Station serves the Northern Extra High System, which includes Bedford, Lexington, and parts of Arlington, Belmont, Waltham, and Winchester. Section 28 is the oldest of the suction mains that serve the pump stations. The rehab of section 128, along with the future replacement of the Brattle Court Pump Station discharge main improved the suction and discharge capacity of the Brattle Court Pump Station.

J.D'amico Inc., of Randolph, Massachusetts was the MWRA contractor for this project. The project was awarded at a cost of $1.9 million.
