Newton, MWRA Work May Cause Discolored Water

From 9:00 p.m. on October 22, 2019 through approximately 3:00 a.m. on October 23, 2019, The City of Newton, in partnership with MWRA, will conduct flow testing in the City of Newton’s Southern Pressure District in support of MWRA’s Commonwealth Avenue Pump Station Improvement project.

Newton residents may experience discolored water and lower pressures south of the Mass Pike.  If discolored water does occur, it is the result of a small amount of iron in local pipes. Please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used. Residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work.

If you have any questions, please contact Jeff McLaughlin at 617-305-5762, or MWRA’s 24-hour drinking water line at 617-305-5950.
