Harbor Algae Bloom

You may have noticed a brown plume around parts of Boston Harbor in the last few days. It appears to be the result of a natural diatom bloom.  Such blooms occur most years, although this year the bloom seems to be more widespread, having been reported in the outer and inner harbor, Quincy and Hingham bays, and other areas.

Save the Harbor/Save the Bay has more information on its blog.
