Governor Baker Swears in John Carroll
for Tenth Term on MWRA Board of Directors

Congratulations to John J. Carroll, who was sworn in today by Governor Charlie Baker for his tenth term on the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) Board of Directors.

The MWRA is governed by an 11-member board of directors who are appointed by the governor, or directly by elected officials in MWRA’s customer communities. Carroll was re-elected to serve on the board in May 2017. He was first elected to the board in 1985, and is now the only original member of the MWRA Board of Directors. Since that time, Carroll has served as vice chairman of the board, and is one of three representatives of the MWRA Advisory Board.

In recognition of Carroll's dedicated service and many contributions to the agency and its ratepayers, the MWRA’s new water treatment plant was named in his honor in 2005 as the John J. Carroll Water Treatment Plant, located in Marlborough.

Carroll serves as town manager of Norwood, and previously served as superintendent of public works and town engineer for Lexington. From 1974 to 1978, Carroll served as commissioner of public works for the Commonwealth. He graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Civil Engineering, and also served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952.
