MWRA Pipe Maintenance May Cause Discolored Water
in Areas of Allston and Brighton

map of affected area

On Thursday March 16, 2017 the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will be conducting maintenance on a water main located on Beacon Street and Harvard Street in Brookline.

This work is estimated to take two days to complete and may result in discolored water in parts of Allston and Brighton, as shown on the map (PDF) above.

If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in local pipes. Please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used.  Residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work.

If you have any questions, please call Jeff McLaughlin at 617-305-5762, or MWRA’s 24-hour water phone line at 617-305-5950.
