MWRA Water Leak Repair Work in Melrose May Affect Traffic

Location of work, Melrose

On Tuesday, December 27, MWRA will start excavation for a water leak repair on Section 70 at Lynn Fells Parkway and Youle St. in Melrose, near 70-26-A. This work will take approximately two weeks to complete and may temporarily affect local traffic.

Section 70 is a 36-inch, circa 1950 steel water main. To repair the pipe, a pine plug will be pushed into the hole where the pipe is leaking while the line is live. A welded cap or plate will placed over the plug.

Discolored water is not anticipated. If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in local pipes. Please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used.

For more information, please contact Jeff McLaughlin at 617-305-5762 or MWRA's 24-hour water line at (617) 305-5950.
