MWRA Valve Replacement Work May Cause Discolored Water
in Parts of Chelsea and Revere

On Monday, June 9, 2014, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will be replacing valves on water main Section 33 on Washington Avenue in Chelsea. The pipeline isolation to complete this work may result in flow reversal to Water Meters 10 and 139 to Chelsea and Meters 30 and 93 to Revere. As a result of the possible flow reversal, those meters may observe discolored water. There should be no loss of pressure.

The general areas served by these meters is described below:

Chelsea (North of Rte 16) Meter 10 – Washington Avenue near Murray Street

Meter 139 – Washington Avenue near Bell Street

Revere Meter 30 – Prospect Avenue area

Meter 93 – Rte 16 and Woods Avenue.

If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in the pipes. While safe for drinking, cooking, and other uses, please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used.

Residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work.

Please call MWRA at (617) 305-5950 if you have any concerns.
