MWRA Pipeline Work May Cause
Discolored Water in Parts of Milton and Lower Mills

Beginning Monday, December 19, 2011, MWRA will be performing final work to bring the Southern Spine water main project on-line. This work may cause discolored water in area surrounding the intersection of Reedsdale Road, Central Avenue and Brook Road, east to the Expressway for up to three days. Residents of Lower Mills within the area of Dorchester Avenue, Gallivan Boulevard and Morton Street may also experience discolored water as a result of this work.

If discolored water does occur, it is a result from a small amount of iron in local pipes. While it is still safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used. Therefore, residents near this location should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work.   Please call MWRA at 617-305-5950 if you have any questions or concerns.

Section 107 is part of MWRA's Southern Spine Distribution Mains Project to increase water delivery capacity and provide much-needed system redundancy for Milton, Quincy and the Southeast corner of Boston. The final activation of this section will take place next week. Another notice will follow.
