MWRA TO ACTIVATE BLUE HILLS TANKS
Work May Cause Discolored Water In Quincy

MORE INFORMATION
Blue Hills Rendering

On Thursday, August 27, 2009, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will activate the new Blue Hills Covered Storage tanks, which will provide better water pressure and emergency storage to the City of Quincy.

The new tanks have been filled and tested and will serve Quincy, Milton, Brookline, Roxbury, West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, Mattapan and Hyde Park.  The water tanks will store safe drinking water for consumption and fire protection in the event of a pipeline break or other water supply emergency.

This activation may cause discolored water throughout the City of Quincy for up to 48 hours after the tanks are put into service.

If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in the pipes. While safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used. Therefore, residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work.

Please contact the MWRA’s 24-hour water operations center at (617) 305-5950 if you notice any problems.
