MWRA WATER MAIN WORK MAY CAUSE
LOSS OF WATER PRESSURE; DISCOLORED WATER

On Monday night, December 29, 2008, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will be installing valves on the water main that brings water to Quincy and parts of Milton.

Residents may experience a loss of water pressure beginning about 10:00 p.m. and lasting until about 6:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. The MWRA asks all Quincy and Milton residents to restrict water use to essential purposes only during these periods.

Residents may also expect to see discolored water beginning late Monday evening and lasting up to 3 days. This discolored water is safe for drinking and cooking.

If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in the pipes. While safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used. Therefore, residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work.

Residents can call the MWRA’s Operations Center at (617) 305-5970 to report any problems.
