MWRA to Install Interim Fencing at Echo Bridge
Work Will Require Brief Closure

The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will install new interim chain link fencing to replace the snow fencing along the existing railings at Echo Bridge.

Weather permitting, MWRA’s contractor, Steelco Fence of Needham Heights, will be installing a 4-foot tall black chain link fence on both sides of the bridge on Wednesday, January 9, 2008. The work should be take a week to ten days, depending on weather conditions. For safety reasons, the bridge will be closed to pedestrians during the installation of the fencing.

MWRA is working with local legislators, the towns of Newton and Needham, and the Friends of Hemlock Gorge to determine a long-term solution to repairing and replacing the historic railings with the limited funding available. For more information, please contact Len Cawley at (617) 660-7972.
